Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make machines for 110V operation?

Yes, and they are tested here in the UK with our mains power converter before shipping.

Can you make me the injector barrel only?

Yes, but it's where most of the work is, so you may not save as much money as you hoped. The barrel and funnel parts, drilled & tapped for M8 support rods and an M6 thermocouple, is £350 plus P&P

Do you sell plans for your injector?

No.

Is a vice included with the injector?

No, but you can buy a cheap one on the likes of EBay if you do not have one.

Why can't I just 3D print things?

You can - for the most part. 3D printing is great for very low volumes and prototyping but it's slow. Iinjecting is thousands of times faster, more flexible and parts tend to be stronger.

What is the maximum mould height?

About 15cm. If you need more height a custom modification can be made.

Can you make a machine with a larger capacity?

Yes. However, this machine is based around an off-the-shelf drill press. The "throw" of this machine is 60mm. The only way to increase capacity it to make the barrel wider. This lowers the injection pressure available through the handle. It is not safe to compensate by fitting a handle extender, because the frame contains plastic parts which might at some point break from the increased forces. If you are planning to make "short round" parts, then a lower injection pressure will not be a problem. If you plan to make "tall thin" parts, then it may be. I cannot guarantee injection pressures nor frame durability in these circumstances. The risk would need to be yours.

What about adjusting the machine's height?

The bottom of the injector barrel is approximately 15cm from the base plate. This cannot be increased in the standard configuration but custom machines can be made. You can effectively make this height smaller by raising your mold clamp on a pedestal of your own devising. A second, excellent option, is to bolt your base plate to the bench and drill a hole in it, allowing the column to drop through it to the height you require. You can lock it off using the tightening bolt.
A final option is to cut the bottom of the column down to the length required, but obviously, this is permanent.

What about a warranty?

The machine is sold as new, and comes with a one year guarantee, as long as the machine is used as intended, and in "hobbyist" mode. You should not see problems, but if they do arise, I'll provide replacement parts and assistance as needed. I am assuming you're "handy" and can use simple tools. Please don't purchase if you're not.

How is payment made?

Electronic banking (BACS transfer) is the easiest way.
Other methods can be used, but the buyer must pay for all costs (e.g. Paypal commission).
50% payment on commissioning secures the machine and allows me to purchase the parts.
The balance is payable just before dispatch. P&P is charged at cost and is location-dependent.
The package weighs 6.5Kg.
Mainland USA costs £113, for example.
